The South Snowdonia Search And Rescue Team which is a totally voluntary organisation are fundraising to construct a purpose built base within the local community. We are presently based in an old chapel that is leased to us, and that lease is due to expire in the next few years. The location of the chapel isn't ideal either, so we have decided we should try to raise funds to build a new base at a location within the community which we serve.
The project build has been estimated at around £130,000, a very daunting target as we only usually only achieve an income of about £6,000 per year through donations, therefore £50,000 towards building materials would be a massive boost towards reaching that target.
Our most recent incident was the helicopter crash in the mountains in South Snowdonia where five people lost their lives, this incident proved that our present base wasn't fit for purpose, in that it was too small and therefore unable to cope with the sheer number of mountain rescue personnel involved on such a major incident. God forbid that we would have to deal with an incident similar to the abduction of April Jones which our neighbouring team had to a few years ago.
Thank you for giving community projects your support, without support from people like you we would struggle to survive.
