Addam Smith is the founder of Band of Builders which is a community that was originally set up to support Addam Smith’s colleague, Keith Ellick who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and he had less than a year to live. After emotional conversations between the pair about how Keith wouldn’t live to see his kids grow up, Addam decided to help him. Adam posted in The Builders Talk Facebook group of 12,000 other trades people to share the news and within minutes, he was inundated with donations and offers to help renovate Keith’s house. In one week a team of 50 tradesmen from across the country completely revamped Keith’s house in Lincoln using donated materials and funded by donations. Addam received 334 nominations into the Trade Hero category with comments such as the below:
‘Addam Smith is the reason why I joined band of builders or as I call it band of brothers, the man selflessly puts people’s needs before himself and expects nothing return, the guy is an absolute legend and I’m proud to be part of the group’.
‘Fortunately, a lot of us go through life with relative ease, however, if and when times get tough there isn’t really much help out there. Due to the work Addam has done and continues to do, a lot of people will benefit from his hard work. In short, if there were more people like Addam willing to go that extra mile, the world would be a much better place’.
On the back of the success with Keith’s house renovation, Addam is now working to make Band of Builders a registered charity so he can continue to support those in need and changing their lives for the better.
The £50,000 would go towards supporting other builders in need.
